Animal Control

Nuisance barking and roaming dogs continue to be problems within our subdivision. Many of those homeowners are not aware that their dogs present a problem when they are absent.

Calling the dog owner direct often will help resolve the problem. Most dog owners will take action to accommodate a complaining neighbor. The county sheriff can help mediate these problems if the owners are uncooperative.

Keeping a log of the problems to submit to the animal control officer, helps substantiate an ongoing problem.. Or for immediate assistance call dispatch and give the location of incident.

Animal Control Ordinance Law
For the safety and benefit of our community , the Sandoval County Animal Control Ordinance is being enforced by Animal Control Officer, George Griego. He is empowered to capture wandering animals, can deliver cages if needed and talk or leave notice with an offender. There is a voluntary statement form that complainants can track and then file with the Sandoval county sheriff's office to initiate court action against an offender. This statement should include exact dates and times of violations and note several different dates when the violations occurred and, if available, photos. The complainant may be requested to be a witness at a court date. (To be verified with George Griego, animal control ) The court has issued penalties up to $300 and may involve jail terms for repeat offenders.

If you have a problem with dog(s) running at large, disturbing the peace, or any other violation under the ordinance, print and use the form, or in the event of an emergency: call County Dispatch at 505-867-4581.

You will be asked to give the location of the problem. You can choose to remain anonymous on the call.
