News Update 6/10 PM (Thompson Ridge Fire Wildfire)

Acres: 21,089 Start date: May 31, 2013 Cause: Downed powerline Location: Valles Caldera National Preserve, NM Containment: 50 percent Fuels: Mixed conifer and Ponderosa pine Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 20 crews, 49 engines, 32 water tenders, 5 dozers Total personnel: 1,003 Available air support: 3 air tankers, 6 helicopters Today, firefighters continued an aggressive direct attack on the southeastern side of South Mountain to complete the final leg of the southeastern perimeter of the mountain. The fire became very active within the perimeter during the afternoon and produced four large plumes. Firefighters patrolled the northern perimeter seeking any hotspots near the line but found none. Night crews will continue to patrol and mop up. NM Highway 4 was reopened to traffic at 8:00 am. Forest Service Road 105 and Winter Road reopened this afternoon to allow evacuees back into Thompson Ridge, Rancho de la Cueva and Elk Valley . The pre-evacuation notice for Bennett Subdivision...
