Pino Fire Update

HEAVY RAINS POSSIBLE TODAY

August 26, 2014, Santa Fe, NM – The lightning caused Pino Fire, on Santa Fe National Forest’s Jemez Ranger District, is now estimated at 117 acres. The fire is located 5 miles south of State Highway 4 and 6 miles east of Jemez Springs

The fire is being managed for resource benefit. Fire crews allow the fire to burn naturally and assist as needed with hand ignition to manage the rate and direction of fire spread. Active fire was observed yesterday in the heavy fuels with some group tree torching. This indicates an overall drying of fuels in the fire area.

Today’s weather forecast calls for a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the area. It remains to be seen if significant precipitation will fall on the fire due to the scattered nature of the storms. A warming trend is still expected for later this week.

There are no road closures due to fire at this time.
