Paliza Prescribed Burn Cancelled

September 26, 2014, Santa Fe, NM – Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest’s Jemez Ranger District met this morning in conference with New Mexico Environment Department Air Quality Bureau, Jemez Pueblo Liaisons, and other agencies. Changing weather conditions are not predicted to be favorable for prescribed burning in the next few days. This prompted the decision to cancel implementation of the 6200-acre Paliza prescribed burn that was scheduled to begin this weekend.

Conditions continue to be conducive for the Los Griegos prescribed pile burning. A total of 187 acres will be treated in a two day period beginning on Saturday. This project is located 17 miles southwest of Los Alamos, east of Sierra Los Pinos.
