Firefighters are actively suppressing the Diego Fire, located on Santa Fe National Forest’s Coyote Ranger District, nine miles southeast of Coyote.

The fire is lightning caused, has grown to more than 200 acres in size and is burning primarily in dead fuels. The fire behavior has increased and includes some torching and spotting.

Resources on scene include the Carson Hotshots, four engines and miscellaneous support personnel. Additional resources have been ordered to assist with the suppression effort, including the Northern New Mexico Type 3 Incident Management Team, three Type 1 Hotshot crews, one Type 2 Initial Attack crew, two helicopters, six engines, and several water tenders. Several structural protection engines also have been requested.

No structures are threatened at this time and the fire remains on federal lands. The closest private lands are approximately one mile from the fire.
