We have been getting some inquiries regarding slash pit. First of all, "thank you" to all of you that have been Spring cleaning your property in preparation for the upcoming fire season.
If you want to hire Howard Fegan (575) 829-3031 to chip your slash, be aware that he will be getting the county chipper in mid-to-late-May. His rate is $35.00 per 3' X 3' pile.
The Thompson Ridge slash pit will open in early May, and I will pass on that information from Forest Service as soon as I get it.
The Fire Department off Forest Road 10 is not available for slash, nor has it been for several years. What you currently see at the fire barn is not authorized. The Forest Service no longer has funds to manage and chip that location, and we don't have the volunteer man-power to manage this.
If you absolutely need to get rid of slash as soon as possible, call the county landfill at 505-867-0816. OR, get involved, come to the SLP board meeting and volunteer to work on this issue.
