Final Update: Horseshoe Fire on Santa Fe National Forest 100% Contained

Percent Contained: 100% as of 7:30 p.m.

Cause: Downed power line

Growth Potential: Low

Vegetation: Ponderosa pine, pine litter

Summary: A falling tree apparently struck a power line in two places, igniting a fire that was reported by the Cerro Pelado Lookout Tower at 4:30 p.m. Fire crews quickly responded and had the fire 100% contained by 7:30 p.m. Crews will continue mop-up operations throughout the night. Fire investigators from the US Forest Service are on the scene conducting an investigation. The communities around the fire area will be without power for 4-5 hours while the utility company continues maintenance on the power lines.

Engines: Five engines, including resources from Jemez Ranger District, Bandelier National Monument, La Cueva Volunteer Fire Department, New Mexico State Forestry Returning Heroes, and Sandoval County Fire Department, responded.
