Summary: The Battleship Fire is in steep terrain with difficult access. Crews were on scene overnight working on the perimeter. Thanks to calm wind conditions overnight, the perimeters are holding. But the heavy fuels in the interior are burning hot. Air attack is monitoring the fire from the air. A helitack crew is delivering portable water tanks to assist with suppression. Santa Fe County’s Black Canyon hand crew is on scene, and a 20-person hand crew from the Pike and San Isabel National Forests is on its way to the fire. Smoke may be visible along the Highway 4 corridor.
Fire danger on the Santa Fe National Forest is Extreme. Visitors are urged to use extreme caution with campfires, smoking, shooting and other activities that may spark. Fireworks are always prohibited on National Forest System lands.

Weather: Hotter, drier weather conditions continue today with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Winds are from the southeast at 10 to 15 mph.
