Seeking Volunteers to Repair Damage to Jemez River Bosque

The restoration work on the Jemez described in our first announcement was vandalized over the weekend. See the USFS press release here.

The forest Service has asked us to expand on the tasks already planned to include work to repair some of the damage. The cottonwoods need watering more than ever. Additionally, we will remove the rocks that were dumped in the pools and otherwise restore the trout habitat.

Cecil Rich, the SF National Forest fisheries biologist, will give us a brief overview of the project as a whole to explain how the different constructed features will benefit water quality and aquatic habitat.

After lunch the Club will conduct a clinic on small stream fly fishing techniques, including:
* selecting appropriate tackle
* flies for Jemez streams
* reading the water
* casting techniques for small water
* being stealthy

This should be particularly of interest to those who are new to fly fishing or who want to sharpen their techniques for fishing typical Jemez streams.

More experienced NM Trout members will be available for personal coaching.

When:
9:00 AM, Saturday, July 23rd, 2016

Where:
Meet at the Spanish Queen Public Use Site about five miles south of Jemez Springs.

What to Bring:
Gloves, hat, sunscreen, wading boots or hippers for occasional stream crossings, Water bottle or canteen (we'll have a 5 gal water cooler), fly fishing gear for the clinic. We'll have some 5 gal buckets, but bring one if you have it.

Respond by 5:00 PM, Wednesday, July 20th to ronloehman@gmail.com and the Club will provide your lunch. Indicate in your response if you want to participate in the techniques clinic, so we can have enough coaches.
