Annual Earth Day Highway Clean-up

EARTH DAY HIGHWAY CLEAN-UP M.Forcier-Call

This year, our Annual Earth Day Highway Clean-up will be on the very date of the original celebration of Earth Day: Saturday, April 22, forty-seven years ago!

So be aware: the Jemez Mountains people will be going up and down the Highway, cleaning-up the mess of trash thrown out of car windows or dropped by hikers, who unaware or thoughtless, litter the highways of our nation. Usually, a large number of items collected on Highway 4 are beer cans, some soda cans, and plastic water bottles. It’s enough to make one sad to see that after 47 yrs. so many Americans have not developed more respect and love for our Home Planet...

And so, our annual call from Jemez Sustainable Solutions is to generous, service-minded, Earth caring, able citizens, to sign-up for this event.

We will begin the highway “clean-up” no later than 10am to be done by 12 noon. Stations where you register, pick up trash bags, & safety vests --to be returned to the Station-- will open at 9am. So you can start as early as you want after you’ve registered, and as soon as your partner has arrived --since we work in teams of two.

Stations will be at the following places: The Trail House in Cañon, Stage Stop in Jemez Springs, and Amanda’s in La Cueva.

The following miles are available to you (not already assigned to people or organizations who have “adopted” miles). You may choose your own mile to clean-up by contacting Margaia by email or phone: 829-3617 or mfc@windstream.net. Otherwise, you will be assigned a mile when you register.

Available miles ready for sign-up: Miles 8, 9; mile 10 (JSS) and 11(JHH) are “open” --ALL register in Cañon --at the Trail House. (12 thru 15 are ”adopted” miles). **(Miles 16 & 17 “Adopted” by the Pres. Church).(Mile 18 “adopted”) 19, 20 JSS--open, (21-adopted) 22, 23, 24, 25: register at Stage Stop in Jemez Springs. **Mile (26 and 28 adopted) 27 is adopted by Alpaca Ranch but OPEN for sign-up; miles 29, 30, 31 (32 adopted) and miles 33, 34, 35: register in La Cueva, at Amanda’s.

So sign-up now if you wish to reserve your clean-up mile for Saturday, April 22! THANKS!
