Cattle Fencing Project

Dear all members,

Thanks to the efforts of the the Bootzins, the Rileys and the Schmitts, the Forest Service has offered to provide free fencing to residents in SLPPOA to help keep trespass cattle out. As such, we need an estimate of how much free fencing homeowners need. Please note that:

1) The free fencing can ONLY be used on the border between private land and the National Forest. Therefore, if you have property that borders the National Forest, you are eligible only for the portion of your property that borders the National Forest. If you have property that does not border the National Forest, you are not eligible for the fencing.
2) The free fencing consists of barbed wire, T-posts and clips. The fencing needs to be installed to comply with the FS "legal fence" which is four strands of barbed wire and posts at a specified spacing.
3) The Forest Service will deliver the material and give installation tips and guidance. The Forest Service will not install the fencing for you, nor watch you install it. Actual installation is up to you.
4) Because it can only be installed on the border of the National Forest and private property, the HOA strongly encourages, but can not require, all homeowners whose property borders national forest land to take and install the free fencing, for the benefit of all members. Otherwise, there will be gaps in the fencing between the national forest and SLPPPOA property that cows can enter through.

Dave Schmitt will be our contact person for this project. His email is: 5.10jemez@gmail.com . If you would like the free fencing, please let him know by March 31, so we can give the Forest Service our requirements.

Did we mention it's free?

Thanks,
The SLPPOA Board
