‘Cabin Fever Festival’ Now Slated For March 24

JEMEZ SPRINGS — Officials at the Village of Jemez Springs announced that the recently postponed Cabin Fever Festival in Jemez Springs will now take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24.

The event was originally scheduled for Feb. 24 but Village officials postponed it in anticipation of inclement weather based on forecasts.

All previously scheduled activities that day will take place at their originally scheduled times. Event activities include live demonstrations and auction of carved items by Sandia Bear Company, live music by Trainwreck Blues and Spiral Pilots, arts and crafts fair, King Arthur Flour Pie and Cobbler Baking Contest and Dog Costume Contest, and other games.

Walatowa Timber Industries, who is donating timber to artists, Sandia Bear Co. will transform wood into art with live demonstrations throughout the event. The one of a kind wood carvings will be judged, and can be purchased during a live auction at 3 p.m.

The King Arthur Flour Pie and Cobbler Baking Contest will feature pies and cobblers from entrants, which will be judged. First place winner will receive $100 in cash; second place will receive a $75 gift card to spend at King Arthur’s Flour and the third place winner will receive a $50 gift card. Slices will be sold after judging.

Winners of the Dog Costume Contest will win: $100 for first place; $75 for second place; and $50 for third place. Dogs entering the contest must be vaccinated and need to be leashed. Winners will be announced around noon, shortly after judging takes place.

Along with arts and crafts and food vendors, the Train Wreck Blues Band will bring their unique sound to the stage from 1-3 p.m. with the Spiral Pilots playing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visitors can compete for cash prizes in both the Cross Cut Saw Competition and Chicken Poop Bingo, where chickens ultimately decide who will win cash prizes.

The Cabin Fever Festival is free, however, some games such as Chicken Poop Bingo and Cross Cut Saw Competition have nominal fees.

Cabin Fever sponsors who helped make the event possible include: Walatowa Timber Industries, King Arthur Flour, Jemez Valley Credit Union, Laughing Lizard Inn, and the Jemez Springs Bath House.

The Cabin Fever Festival is located at Jemez Springs Plaza, 80 Jemez Springs Plaza.
