Holy Ghost Remains Closed & Crews Work to Clear Flood Debris (Tres Lagunas Post-Fire Response Burned Area Emergency Response)

PECOS, NM – The Burn Area Emergency Response (BAER) team installed gates Wednesday to prevent traffic from entering camping areas within the Santa Fe National Forest, Pecos/Las Vegas District along NM 63. The Forest remains closed due to potential flash floods as thunderstorms fall upon the burn scar and because burned trees or branches could fall. Also on Wednesday, vault restrooms at the Windy Bridge area were pumped to prevent effluent overflows in the event of floods. According to Incident Commander Ed Freed, work to clear flooded Forest Service Road 122 (Holy Ghost) and other locations is proceeding, with heavy equipment arriving Thursaday. Crews worked all day Thursday to remove rocks, burned trees and ash debris that had flooded Forest Road 122 - which remains closed to the public and closed to cabin permitees.
