Acres: 24,000 Start date: May 31, 2013 Cause: Downed powerline Location: Valles Caldera National Preserve, NM Containment: 75 percent Fuels: Mixed conifer and Ponderosa pine Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 15 crews, 35 engines, 29 water tenders, 5 dozers Total personnel: 833 Available air support: 3 air tankers, 5 helicopters Summary: Fire activity today was minimal due to increased humidity, light rainstorms and cooler temperature. Firefighters took advantage of the weather throughout the afternoon to patrol the fireline and mop-up hotspots along the northern sections of the fire, thereby boosting containment. Crews continued mop-up on South Mountain and chipping in the southeast section of the fire. The spot fire that occurred early this morning was reevaluated, and was calculated at 40 acres. Crews contained the spot fire by expanding the fireline utilizing bulldozers, digging handline, setting hose lays, and removing snags. Portions of the Highway 4 will be reduced to one lane...
