Thompson Ridge Slash Pit is OPEN!

SLPPOA Board Member Brian Nelson has been informed the Thompson Ridge slash pit is now open.

Confirmation with the Santa Fe National Forest Service office in Jemez Springs offers the following reminders:

* Only slash (came from a tree) should be dumped into the pit;
* NO household, hazardous, or construction items are allowed;
* And, don't forget, we are in Stage One Fire Restrictions.

Sandoval County Issues Burn Ban

Sandoval County Issues Burn Ban and Halts Issuance of Burning Permits

Bernalillo, NM –The Sandoval County Fire Department, due to the extremely high winds and dry conditions, has issued bans on open burning in the unincorporated areas of Sandoval County. In addition, during the ban, the Sandoval County Fire Department will no longer issue burn permits of any kind.

The ban took effect this morning, and will remain in effect until further notice.

FYI, the smoke you are seeing is from the Diener Canyon fire in Mount Taylor Ranger District. It was originally the Redondo Prescribed Fire, that escaped it's perimeter.

SANTA FE, NM – April 11, 2018 – For Immediate Release. Due to current dry conditions and anticipated low moisture levels in weather forecasts, the Santa Fe National Forest will implement forest-wide Stage I fire restrictions effective Friday, April 13 at 8:00 a.m.

Valles Caldera Plans Prescribed Burn

Valles Caldera Plans Prescribed Burn For Valle San Antonio

Jemez Springs, NM —Valles Caldera National Preserve is planning to implement a prescribed burn targeting up to 1,050 acres of meadow grassland in Valle San Antonio, located in the northwest portion of the preserve’s backcountry. The burn operations are planned to start Thursday April 5th, 2018 and possibly continue into Friday dependent upon suitable weather and fuel conditions. The area is currently under a seasonal closure, so impacts to visitors will be minimal.
