SFNF – Jemez Ranger District Cebollita Prescribed Burn to Start in March

SANTA FE, NM – February 13, 2018 – For Immediate Release. To take advantage of favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) expect to begin a broadcast prescribed burn in March in the Cebollita area to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire.

As weather conditions permit, the Cebollita prescribed burn could take place anytime between March 1 and March 17.

Jemez Ranger District Slash Pit Prescribed Burn Planned for February

SANTA FE, NM – February 2, 2018 – For Immediate Release. To take advantage of favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will evaluate weather conditions between now and February 28 to burn the community slash pit and reduce accumulated slash.

The burn is expected to be completed in one day.

Jemez Ranger District Vallecitos Piles Prescribed Burn to Start Jan 26

SANTA FE, NM – January 25, 2018 – For Immediate Release. To take advantage of favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) expect to begin ignitions tomorrow on the Vallecitos piles to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire.

As weather conditions permit, the Vallecitos prescribed burn could continue through February 17.

Jemez Ranger District Road Closures

SANTA FE, NM – January 2, 2018 – For Immediate Release. Santa Fe National Forest officials are prepared to implement the annual closure of certain USDA Forest Service (USFS) maintained roads located in the Jemez Ranger District.

Jemez Ranger District Plans Vallecitos Prescribed Burn

SANTA FE, NM – Nov. 21, 2017 – For Immediate Release. Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest hope to take advantage of unseasonably favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, to resume the Vallecitos prescribed burn on the Jemez Ranger District.

Ignitions could begin as early as Tuesday, Nov. 28, on the final 91-acre unit in the Vallecitos treatment area adjacent to the East Fork trail head and NM Highway 4.

Fresh Cut Christmas Trees At Valles Caldera

Los Amigos de Valles Caldera will once again be helping the Valles Caldera National Preserve to thin overgrown forested areas to protect it from further large wildfires.

These freshly cut trees will be available 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at the Valle Grande Entrance Station, off N.M. 4 between mile marker 39 and 40, starting the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 24. Trees will be available through Dec. 17 unless sold out earlier.

Fuelwood Opportunity on Jemez Ranger District
