Santa Fe National Forest Waives Fees in Honor of Presidents Day; Offices Will Be Closed

The Santa Fe National Forest will waive fees at many recreation sites and amenities on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, for Presidents Day.

All Santa Fe National Forest offices will be closed that day in observance of the federal holiday. Forest offices will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

GOOD NEWS---System 1 Storage Tanks Water Level is INCREASING!

SUCCESS...The suspected System 1 water leak has been isolated!

Our water volunteers, along with the meter can project investment (hardware, software, training, etc.), quickly located the leak area. The water to that property has been shut off and the homeowner notified.

The LevelCon tank monitoring system is reporting 19 inches after being near empty overnight!

The LevelCon tank monitoring system is reporting that the System 1 storage tanks are near empty.

Please let us know if you observe any new leaks.

Troubleshooting so far: both wells are powered on and producing water.

Volunteers will be out reading meters and searching for leaks first thing tomorrow morning.

Santa Fe, NM – Jan. 13, 2016 – For Immediate Release. Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct three pile burns on the Jemez and Cuba Ranger Districts sometime between Jan. 15 and March 31, 2016. That window is dependent on the amount of snowfall on the ground as well as other favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts. Once ignitions begin, they are expected to last two to three days.

Blizzard-Like Conditions on Parts of Highway to Los Alamos

Travel is discouraged, according to reports from nmroads, on the upper elevations of the road to Los Alamos. They have declared Severe Driving Conditions N.M. Highway 4 between mile markers 19 and 46. This is the stretch from above Jemez Springs to the Los Alamos County Line.

This classification of road conditions is just one notch below from having the road closed to traffic. The roads are described as snow packed and icy with poor visibility and blizzard-like conditions.
