Thinning Report

Jemez Electric Vegetation Management Program Results in Unit 1 of SLPPOA
Jack Nyhan, April 2015

We had called a Jemez Electric Coop lineman on an emergency basis for a tree that had fallen on a secondary power line below our home on Bonito Way in April 2015. This was of great interest to me realizing it could have started a fire pretty easily with the dry conditions in the forest at that time, like so many other major and minor fires in the Jemez Mountains. The lineman came from LaCueva and was at the scene within 15 minutes of the call.

Windstream outage

There is a phone outage on the Windstream system that is affecting 11,000 customers in northern New Mexico. This basically will affect the northern half of Sandoval County. I was unable to find out the cause or how long it will be down. If I find out more I will pass it on.

(Update)
the latest info is that a fiber cable was cut and they are working on it as fast as they can. They still have no time estimate, but it sounds like it was a major cable and they will probably be working through the night.

West Fire

Regarding West fire, 2.5 miles NW of Jemez Springs:

USFS crews transitioned this morning into full suppression mode of the WEST fire. There are some archeological sites in the area that could not be properly prepped in time for a window of opportunity coming up to let the fire grow and manage it.

Neighbor Appreciation Day

Sunday June-14 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Sunday June 14, 1:00pm, come with work gloves and rakes. Meet at the Farquhar’s house at the top of Scout’s Lane. In addition to visiting with neighbors we’ll pitch in to collect, load and haul slash (anyone with a trailer wants to make a trip to Thompson Ridge?), and do some general tidying up of the property.

NPS comments on the USFS analysis of Geothermal leasing

NPS comments on the USFS analysis of Geothermal leasing suitability on the land surrounding the VCNP

Marie Rodrigues of the VCNP has sent the NPS comments on the geothermal leasing project proposal. She told me that these NPS comments are public records and that they can be shared with our residents. I have attached the NPS comments and a copy of a Citizen's Guide to NEPA sent by Marie.

Seco Fire status

The decision was made to suppress the Seco fire due to cultural resource concerns.

We will continue to evaluate any lightning starts as we get them. Let us know if there is any way we can assist you.

Location:
· Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest

New fire and update on WEST fire

Information on two fires in our neighborhood from Chief Lee Taylor.

The WEST fire on Holiday Mesa is estimated at 1/2 acre, a decision will be made this afternoon whether to suppress or manage it.

See below for information on another lightning strike fire, this one on the VCNP.

Neither of these are easily visible from SR. 4, if the WEST fire is determined to be manageable that will change as there is several hundred acres that may be "treated".
