Thompson Ridge Pile Burning

A notice was sent on the 27th of October that we may burn this unit. Managers have scheduled it for tomorrow.

Valles Caldera Trust Plans Prescribed Burns

The Valles Caldera Trust is planning a prescribed burn project on the Valles Caldera National Preserve that will begin as early as next Wednesday, November 12 and last for 1-3 days. The prescribed burn will target up to 1471 acres of grass in the Valle Grande, adjacent to NM Highway 4 near mile marker 39.2. Some traffic delays may occur during the ignition phases of the burn but road closures are not expected. If conditions permit, burn operations will occur during mid day in order minimize impacts to morning and afternoon commuter traffic on NM Hwy. 4.

Water System Repairs

The fix on the pipes blew out, and the ditch with the live electrical wire is filled with water. The process will start up again tomorrow, and the Jemez Electric folks will be shutting off electricity again so guys can work on line safely. One more evening with no water unfortunately, and again, thanks for your patience. Same houses affected on Eohippus, Trilobite, Coryphodon and first house on FR 10.

Fire Updates

The controlled burn of piles in Los Griegos is completed. FS is simply monitoring site. There will be some piles burned at Fenton Hill this week, and then when more precipitation arrives, possibly Thompson Ridge piles and Los Conchas meadow in the future.

Water Outage

The latest on the water outage is that homes on System 3: Trilobite, Coryphodon, Eohippus and the first home on FR 10 will be out of water until tomorrow. Our water committee has been working all day, but the main water line is very close to the electrical line, and there will need to be an electrical outage to work on the water line which will most likely occur tomorrow. Thank you Harold Corn and Peter Veverka for all your work today!

Water Out

There has been a break in the mail line, with water leakage at Eohippus and Forest Rd. 10. Main line has been isolated at Hovenweep and Fr 10, with repairs in the works. Folks from Hovenweep toward Hwy 4 and including Eohippus, Trilobite and Coryphodon will be out of water until leak is fixed. Tank is already filling below leak and folks below Hovenweep will eventually have water this morning.

Will post more information as repairs are made. Thanks for your patience, and thanks Harold Corn and folks on the Water Committee for working on this since early this morning.
