Smoke

Good morning folks. Have communicated with Ron Gallegos, fire prevention officer for Jemez District. He said they are putting off burn until next week due to dryness. The treatment will be west of 134, south of Hwy 4, towards East Fork Trail. 360 acres will be treated, dependent on weather. The Jemez District has an open window for this treatment until end of December.

Last Chance to be Heard

The Los Alamos Monitor reports that the Santa Fe National Forest is accepting comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) on the potential effects of geothermal energy development on 195,000 acres of land within SFNF boundaries, located west and north of Valles Caldera
.
The EIS process was initiated in response to an Expression of Interest from Nevada-based Ormat Technologies. The New Mexico Wilderness Alliance and the All Pueblo Council have both come out against the project.

Vallecitos Rx burn

From Chief Taylor

The Jemez Ranger District may begin burning in the Vallecitos Rx unit as soon as tomorrow. The ~360 unit is just west of Vallecitos/ Sierra de Los Pinos area.

Those of you that have respiratory issues should be aware there will be heavy smoke in the area.

It’s Hunting Season – Safety is First Priority

SANTA FE, NM – Oct. 18, 2015 – For Immediate Release.

The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) urges hunters and other visitors to make safety their top priority during hunting season on the forest. Be respectful of the Forest Service’s multiple-use mandate, and remain aware of your surroundings. A good rule of thumb is look up, look down, look all around.

Another recommendation is to review the Forest Service website for hunting safety tips and rules that apply to all national forests and grasslands.

North Banco, Cajete, Redondo Rx

FYI from Chief Taylor. Burning on Valles Caldera may begin today depending on wind.

After the rain last weekend this delayed Rx burn will possibly begin today, depending on weather- winds today may delay it again.

Vallecitos cut and pile

The FS has contracted out to a forest service crew to complete the
Vallecitos Cut and Pile project. There will be no burning for this
project, just cutting and piling. The crew will be working off FR 10 to
complete the 277 acre project.
