Water Main Replacement

Tomorrow October 3, the replacement of the system 1 water main will restart. The area affected is Hovenweep Loop from Aztec to San Juan. Aztec and San Juan will also be involved. San Juan should not be affected for more than a few hours on any day. Hovenweep, Aztec and San Juan are likely to experience extended water outages possibly for more than a day. I will keep you updated as soon as I know when. I'm sorry for the inconvenience but repairs are necessary.

SANTA FE, NM – Sept. 22, 2016 – For Immediate Release. Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct the Virgin Mesa prescribed fire on the Jemez Ranger District. Ignitions for the 1,950-acre planned area, located 1 mile west of Jemez Springs, could begin as early as Sept. 26 and run through Sept. 30, 2016. That window is dependent on favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts.

Water Main Repairs

This Monday, September 26, we will begin replacement of another 1000 feet of the system 1 water main. The homes affected are the ones on Bonito Way and the south end of Hovenweep Loop. Both Aspen and Chaco will also be affected. The work will be done in 2 stages, Bonito Way will be the first half starting on Monday. This will take until Wednesday or Thursday to complete. Aspen, Chaco and Aspen will be started on Wednesday or Thursday. Water outages will occur during the day in the half being worked.

The Valles Caldera National Preserve is home to one of the largest elk herds in New Mexico. Each fall, the sound of elk bugling in the mountains marks the start of their mating season, known as the 'rut'.

Crews doing prep work on the Santa Fe National Forest’s Southwest Jemez Mountains Collaborative Landscape Restoration project have made an unexpected discovery. Foresters confirm that a handful of pine stands along Forest Road (FR) 10 are heavily infected with dwarf mistletoe, a native parasitic plant that reduces the growth, seed production and life span of infected trees.

Some residents in the Jemez Valley have expressed alarm that the Forest Service plans to present the public with a de facto announcement that almost all the National Forest will be closed permanently.
