PUBLIC MEETING IN PECOS JUNE 12 Fire growth was minimal today and only isolated areas of heat were detected. Firefighters continued to work on rehabilitation on firelines, especially around structures in the evacuation area. Crews were also busy chipping vegetation and backhauling equipment from the fireline. In addition, Century Link personnel continued to make repairs to phone lines. Power has not been restored to Holy Ghost canyon. Evacuations will be assessed tomorrow based on the progress of that work.

Fire Name: Jaroso Fire Time/Date Reported: June 10, 2013 at 1:45 pm Location: Espanola Ranger District within the Pecos Wilderness, approximately six miles southeast of Borrego Mesa. Legal Description: T19N, R11E, Sec 1 Cause: Lightning Fuels: Mixed conifer, heavy dead and down fuels with pockets of bug-killed trees and 1,300 acres of downed timber caused by a wind event six years ago. Size: 300 + acres. The fire is projected to grow up to 1,000 acres by morning.

HWY 4 is OPEN. With the southeastern fire perimeters being held at nearly a mile from Highway 4, fire officials have reopened NM Highway 4. As a safety reminder, all are advised to take extra caution in the area due to the continued heavy volume of fire related traffic.

Firefighters worked through the night taking advantage of the favorable window of opportunity.

The voluntary evacuation order for Thompson Ridge, Rancho de la Cueva, and Elk Valley will be lifted today at 4:00 p.m. Forest Service Road 105 remains closed to all traffic north of Thompson Ridge at the junction with Valles Caldera Road 08. The elevated humidity contributed to the minimal fire behavior, in spite of the very active burning in the early to mid-evening the night before.
