Mop up entails detailed inspection of fire lines to be sure the ground is cold and fire perimeter is secure.

Road Closure Update 6/9 11 am (Thompson Ridge Fire Wildfire)

Road Closure Update New Mexico Highway 4 is closed from New Mexico Highway 126 to New Mexico Highway 501. Only full time residents of Cochiti Mesa and properties accessed from Forest Road 268 and Forest Road 289 will be able to go to and from their properties along Highway 4 to Highway 501. Only full time residents of Sierra los Pinos and properties accessed from Forest Road 10 will be able to go to and from their properties along Highway 4 to Highway 126. They will not be able to proceed east on Hwy 4.

Acres: 20,687 Start date: May 31, 2013 Cause: Downed powerline Location: Valles Caldera National Preserve, NM Containment: 40 percent Fuels: Mixed conifer and Ponderosa pine Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 21 crews, 52 engines, 35 water tenders, 2 dozers Total personnel: 1,023 Available air support: 3 air tankers, 6 helicopters Fire intensity increased significantly along the slopes just west of the Valles Caldera headquarters historic district yesterday afternoon. To slow its progress, aerial burnout operations began just before sunset along a ridge southwest of the established fire.

Fire personnel are on scene evaluating containment options. We will have further updates as information becomes available.

Lines were constructed to tie in remaining active fire areas which include the northwest corner of Holy Ghost Canyon.
