News Update 6/16 AM (Thompson Ridge Fire Wildfire)

Acres: 23,903 Start date: May 31, 2013 Cause: Downed powerline Location: Valles Caldera National Preserve, NM Containment: 80 percent Fuels: Mixed conifer and Ponderosa pine Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 8 crews, 22 engines, 17 water tenders, 2 dozers Total personnel: 602 Available air support: 3 helicopters Summary: Last night interior fuel continued to burn but no new growth or interior runs were observed. There were some isolated thunderstorms over the fire. Today firefighters will patrol the fire line and mop-up any hot spots within the perimeter of the fire.

Start Date: May 30, 2013 Cause: Human Size: 10,219 acres Location: 10 miles north of Pecos,NM Terrain: Steep/Rugged Containment: 85% Fuels: Timber Resources Committed: 422 Today’s Weather: Expected temperatures for today will be in the mid 70’s with relative humidity in the twenties. Winds 10-12 mph with wind gusts up to 20 mph. Skies in the morning will be partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of precipitation during the mid and late morning as well as this afternoon. Summary: Mop up, and fire line rehabilitation will continue today along the firelines..

Acres: 24,032 Start date: May 31, 2013 Cause: Downed powerline Location: Valles Caldera National Preserve, NM Containment: 75 percent Fuels: Mixed conifer and Ponderosa pine Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 13 crews, 29 engines, 29 water tenders, 3 dozers Total personnel: 763 Available air support: 5 helicopters Summary: Last night fire activity was minimal, and there was no new growth on the fire. Night shift crews patrolled the perimeter and addressed hotspots near the fireline. Today firefighters will continue to patrol and mopup any hot spots within the perimeter of the fire.
