Forest Service Emergency Stabilization-Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Program Soils and watersheds are two of many resources that are affected by wildfire. While many wildfires cause minimal damage to the land and pose few threats to the land or people downstream, some fires cause damage that requires special efforts to prevent problems afterwards.

BAER Assessment Update – June 25, 2013 JEMEZ SPRINGS, NM (June 25, 2013) – The Thompson Ridge BAER assessment specialists completed their field surveys on Saturday, June 22. The BAER biologist, silviculturist, soils scientists, hydrologists, road engineers, and archeologists continue their analysis of their field data. The hydrologists and soils scientists expect to complete their modeling for predicted post-fire water run-off and erosion levels by Wednesday, June 26.
