Start Date: 5/30/13 Size: 10,219 acres Cause: Human Fuels: Timber Terrain: Steep/Rugged Containment: 90% Location:15 miles N. of Pecos,NM Resources Committed: 152 personnel; 2-Type II crews, 5-Type VI Engines, 1 Dozers, 2 water tenders. Summary: The containment remains at 90 percent. The resources remain on point to protect property. The crews continue to be vigilant about the steep terrain, rolling rocks, potential flash floods, and a drying trend this week. Mop up, backhauling of equipment, and fire line rehabilitation will continue today.

KEY ELEMENTS OF THE BAER ASSESSMENT § A federal BAER assessment team is working for the Valles Caldera National Preserve (www.vallescaldera.gov/) and coordinating with the Forest Service and other local agencies to strategically assess post-fire impacts to the watersheds in the burn area of the recent Thompson Ridge Fire that burned 24,000 acres of the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

TRES LAGUNAS POST-FIRE EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE - JUNE 19, 2013 PECOS, NM (June 19, 2013) A Public Meeting will be held at the Pecos High School auditorium on Monday, June 24th at 6:00 pm. The U.S. Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) assessment team will share their assessment data and findings for the Tres Lagunas fire area and potential for post-fire runoff, flooding and debris flows. The BAER assessment team hosted a field trip into the burn area this week for cooperators involved in the post-fire emergency response efforts for the Tres Lagunas fire.

Today, fire crews are battling the hot spots. The containment remains at 90 percent.

THREE PHASES OF WILDFIRE REHABILITATION There are three phases of rehabilitation following wildfires on federal lands: o Fire Suppression Repair o Emergency Stabilization-Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) o Long-Term Recovery and Restoration Fire Suppression Repair is a series of immediate post-fire actions taken to repair damages and minimize potential soil erosion and impacts resulting from fire suppression activities and usually begins before the fire is contained, and before the demobilization of an Incident Management Team.
